The Dixon Homestead Library cooperated in conjuction with the Literacy Volunteers of Pascack Valley that is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting adults in our community learn English as a Second Language.  We teach the most basic survival skills up through advanced reading and writing skills.  LVPV is a member of Literacy NJ and ProLiteracy.  Our program is fully accredited by ProLiteracy.

 

The next Tutor Training Workshop at Westwood Library is scheduled forTuesdays, 
November 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th from 7-9:30pm
at Westwood Library.

LVPV provides a free 10-hour training  course, lead by a certified Literacy Volunteers trainer. Upon completion of the course, LVPV will match you with a student in your community.  Program coordinators are available for advice and suggestions.  An extensive collection of materials are available to help develop lessons and teach English as a Second Language.  Tutors work one-on-one or in small groups to help students learn English.  Tutors must be 18 years or older.  All tutoring is held at a participating library.  Make a difference and volunteer today!!

Some of what we provide includes:

  • One-on-One tutoring at all levels, tailored to the needs of individual students. (Trained tutors for  students at all levels, specifically designed for a student's individual needs.  Tutoring takes place at the library for at least one hour/week or more depending on the tutor/student arrangement).
  • Conversation Classes (small groups or pairs to practice conversing with others.  Students of all levels are welcome and are able to benefit from this class).
  • Tutor Training Workshops throughout the year (LVPV provides a free 10-hour training  course, lead by a certified Literacy Volunteers trainer. Upon completion of the course, we will match you with a student in the community.  Tutors work one-on-one  or with small groups to help students with specific needs learn English.  All tutoring is held at the Dixon Homestead Library).  Make a difference and volunteer today!!
  • Access to a core collection of ESL materials appropriate for tutors and students
