Attend ESL Sessions and Learn to Speak and Read English

(One-on-one and in-person classes are available)

In conjunction with the Literacy Volunteers of Pascack Valley (LVPV), the Dixon Homestead Library conducts ESL classes for Dumont residents who wish to learn or improve English as a Second Language.  Services available:

  • Individual tutoring from beginner to advanced levels is customized to the individual student.

  • Students and tutors meet at least once a week in the Library.

  • All materials are provided to the students.

  • The Library maintains an ESL resource collection which is available to students and tutors.

  • Conversation classes are facilitated by a tutor and are available for students who wish to practice speaking.

  • Individuals who are interested in enrolling in a class should contact Tatiana Sands for an application and placement evaluation. Please call her at 201-384-2030, option 4.

  • Individuals who would like to become volunteer tutors should inquire about the Tutor Training Workshops that are offered by LVPV on a quarterly  basis at the Westwood Public Library. Following the completion of this ten-hour training course, tutors are matched with a student and will be assigned a room in the Library to meet.  For more information: https://www.literacyvolunteerspv.org/tutors.html

  • Students should be mindful that the tutors are volunteers.  A text or telephone call is appreciated when the session must be cancelled.
