The Dixon Homestead Library is pleased to provide Internet access to its patrons as part of its effort to meet the educational, cultural, recreational, and business needs of the community.  The Library has 12 desktop computers with internet access for patron use. One station is reserved for the BCCLS catalog and the others operate with Windows 10 and have the following Microsoft Office 2019 programs installed:  Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

  • We uphold ALA’s Library Bill of Rights: all users are to be provided with equal access to all Library resources.

  • Computers with internet access are available on a first come/first served basis.

  • A BCCLS library card is required and will permit up to 2 hours of use per day.

  • Guest passes can be obtained at the Circulation Desk for 30 minutes of use.

  • Computers are on a timer and automatically shut down ten (10) minutes before closing.

  • The Library does not endorse the content or information found; nor does it vouch for the accuracy, authenticity, or timeliness of any website.  A Reference Librarian can mediate questions and provide guidance to valid sources.

  • Patrons should be aware that security in an electronic environment cannot be guaranteed; therefore transactions, files and communications are vulnerable to unauthorized use and should be considered public.

  • The Library will not be responsible for direct, indirect, or consequential damages related to the use of information found.

  • Searching for information, word processing, and conducting job searches takes precedence over gaming and social networking.

  • Parents and guardians are responsible for monitoring access to the Internet by minors.  As these computers are in a public area, unsupervised children may see things that the parent finds objectionable: the Library Staff is not responsible for screening what is acceptable to children.

  • Patrons are prohibited from modifying any computer settings at any time or using Library computers for conducting commercial  business.

  • Sending threatening, harassing, offensive messages or images or deliberately transmitting computer viruses is a crime and will be reported to the Dumont Police Department. Library privileges will be suspended.

  • The Library is confident that individuals will use sound judgment as to what is acceptable to fellow community members and will conduct themselves in a responsible and legal manner when using the Internet.  The Staff reserves the right to block patrons who violate these policies.

  • Downloading information to a flash drive or to the Cloud is permitted.  Users must adhere to the copyright lawns and licensing agreements when downloading material found on the Internet.

  • The Library’s security erases any previous searches or documents created at the end of a session.  Staff does not have the ability to retrieve lost documents.

  • Printing is available and documents are sent to the photocopier for retrieval.  A username and password must be created to originate a print job. The charge is $.15 per page for black and white copying and $.40 for color copies.

  • Scanning to a flash drive can be done on the Library’s photocopier for $.15 per scan (not per page).
