Reader’s Advisory Explained

A service which suggests fiction and nonfiction titles to a reader through direct or indirect means.  Staff help patrons to identify books, television shows, music CDs, audiobooks, and movies that they would like to borrow.

Librarians create topical displays of movies, TV shows, music, and books on a regular basis. These suggestions introduce patrons to the variety and scope of items in the collection.

One-on-one conversations with patrons help identify a good match to a patron’s topic of interest. Our professional knowledge and resources such as Novelist, the BCCLS catalog, Fantastic Fiction, Library Reads, Goodreads, Rotten Tomatoes, and imdb.com  are useful in helping to narrow down choices.

Adult book clubs are offered twice a month and are designed to introduce unfamiliar authors and genres to participants. Many times this becomes a way to discover new topics of interest!
